Celebrating the Futures of the Local Students of Cabo del Este

It was a day of immense celebration on Saturday, May 20, when Fundación Costa Palmas joined the East Cape Guild in awarding 300 scholarships to students of academic excellence. This is the 4th year for the nonprofits to come together to empower the local students of Cabo del Este (including La Ribera, El Campamento, El Triunfo, and Santiago, among other municipalities), supporting them in continuing their high school and university educations.

Established in 1997 as a Mexican nonprofit, the East Cape Guild awards scholarships to students from El Cardonal to the north, El Triunfo to the west, Cabo Pulmo to the south, and all the small ranches and towns in between. All students awarded scholarships have grades that average between 8.9 and 10 (out of 10) and demonstrate a vital commitment to their education and future careers.

Fabiola González, who is 21 years old and from Las Cuevas, received a scholarship from the East Cape Guild and Costa Palmas for her high school and university studies, respectively. Now in the last semester of agricultural engineering, she is planning to specialize in landscaping.

“These scholarships have made a difference in my place,” González stated. “Because of this, I have been able to study and pursue my dream of becoming an Agricultural Engineer. I am forever grateful to the East Cape Guild and Fundación Costa Palmas.”

Dancing and singing ensued at the awards ceremony, which was a lively and celebratory affair honoring all of the student’s hard work and dedication toward their futures. In attendance were the board of the East Cape Guild and Ruth Gurría, president of Fundación Costa Palmas. Congratulations to all those who received their scholarships. We know you will continue to have success as you continue to devote yourselves to your personal goals and endeavors.
