Tourism in Los Cabos is on the rise. The most recent statistics show 2.2 million visitors came to Baja’s southernmost point, bringing in $4 million to the economy. Most people visiting Los Cabos are international, mostly hailing from the US, but the stats show another interesting change. The age of the average traveler to Los Cabos has shifted from 50+ years old, to a younger demographic that hovers around the age of 35. Age has shifted, but experts have noticed additional changes in those visiting their shores.
So, what does a typical visitor look like? While the average age has dropped, experts say today’s travelers can be broken into two categories: Travelers looking for action-filled vacays and those looking for a luxury stay.
One group flocking to Los Cabos are 30-somethings looking for an itinerary-packed stay. Travel experts say the abundance of activities, from zip lining and sport fishing to ATV tours and snorkeling, is partly responsible for the new uptick in younger travelers.
With new hotels opening and activities that meet every traveler, travel agents are able to tailor trips to the needs and wants of each couple, family, or group.
While some adventure-seekers plan their trip out far in advance, others pick the destination and plan activities once they arrive. In response, many resorts offer excursion planning to help guests find and plan their ideal activities and day trips.
At Costa Palmas, a team of guides and instructors create tailored expeditions for guests. Travelers can hike, bike, fish, snorkel, and swim all under the guidance of local experts that fuel the Aventura adventure team.
Travelers aren’t just looking for adrenaline-pumping activities, many prioritize a luxury stay. The increase in high-end accommodations is also driving tourism in the area. Fresh new developments offer unparalleled beachfront villas that are lavishly furnished and offer breathtaking views.
But, it’s not just the location that has visitors clamoring for a booking, it’s the perks that go with it. With personal butlers, private chefs, pools, and access to VIP amenities like world champion golf courses, the term “luxury stay” is being refined in Los Cabos.
As demand increases for these uber-luxe offerings, tourism brands are answering the call.
Following the demand, airlines are adding non-stop flights from new destinations to Los Cabos. Right now, 30 cities offer nonstop service to Los Cabos International Airport, up from just 18 cities in 2019.
Private airlines are getting in on the action too, offering more flights to high-end travelers. Smaller airlines are partnering directly with hotels to cater to guests looking for VIP service that starts and ends with their travel accommodations. In-flight amenities, as you’d expect, are top-notch, and private transportation to and from the airport is as efficient as it is luxurious.
When travelers are ready to wander from their palatial residences, they usually go in search of food. Los Cabos has always had a great mix of restaurants, with many individually-owned by locals who serve local fare, but today’s traveler wants choices – affluent choices.
With luxury-seekers regularly visiting Cabo, a growing number of Michelin-starred restaurants have joined the ranks. Eleven restaurants, including Manta and Comal, are now among the dining options.
World-renowned chefs have opened restaurants on the peninsula as well. Estiatorio Milos, for example, run by acclaimed chef Costas Spiliadis, is recognized as one of the finest Mediterranean restaurants in the world. The restaurant, nestled inside Costa Palmas, is the ideal spot for an anniversary, birthday, or simply a night out with family or friends. Mozza Baja by Nancy Silverton, located in the Marina Village at Costa Palmas has gorgeous views of the marina. The restaurant features delicious Italian-inspired cooking in an eclectic setting.
While activities are a draw for travelers, luxury adventurers lean towards activities like yachting, boutique shopping, immersive spa days, and private golf lessons. As you expect, Cabo dabbles in these activities as well.
Costa Palmas ticks all of those boxes. The community recently opened an opulent marina that can accommodate mega yachts up to 250-feet long. For those looking to charter a yacht, pre-arranged trips are available on a whim. Consider an overnight trip that involves island hopping, wandering through untouched beaches, taking private jet skis out for a spin, and enjoying chef-prepared meals on deck.
If boutique shopping is your preference, explore the shops just steps from the marina inside the high-end Marina Village. Pick up the latest fashion pieces, grab a bite to eat in the outdoor lounge, and dance the night away at the waterfront club.
You can schedule a rejuvenating service at the Four Seasons Resort, which is also on the Costa Palmas property. Guests are pampered by an array of services and friendly staff. From couples massages and pilates classes to hair and nail appointments. You can even schedule poolside treatments so you can enjoy a pristine view of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains.
Rather spend some time on the green? The Costa Palmas Golf Club, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. offers 18-holes that overlooks the sapphire waters of the Sea of Cortez. If you aren’t up for 18 holes, consider playing the short, walkable course. Or schedule lessons with one of the greats to perfect your swing.
It’s not uncommon for those visiting Los Cabos to fall in love with the area. Whether the lush landscape and perfect sunsets grabs you or the high-end accommodations are too perfect to pass up, many visitors decide to call Los Cabos home. Buyers have many options, including those inside Costa Palmas.
Choose from a private residence along the beach or consider purchasing a home at the Casa Blake, which is coming soon. When you live at Casa Blake, you can dip your toes in the swimmable shores of the Sea of Cortez, join an elite yacht club, and enjoy life in one of the area’s most luxurious locales.
