Los Cabos, one of Mexico’s most popular tourist destinations, is seeing an increase in the number of luxury travelers. The area has become a hot spot for celebrities, affluent travelers, and tourists seeking refined amenities.
As a result, Los Cabos, along with neighboring locales like the tranquil East Cape, are making changes to meet this high-end demand.
As travelers seek luxury accommodations in East Cape, those in the travel and tourism industry are providing elevated experiences that exceed expectations. Take a look at some of the changes Los Cabos and East Cape have made:
To support the growth of high-end travel, private airlines are answering the call. Some companies are now offering direct flights complete with in-flight amenities and private transportation to hotels and resorts. Some airlines are even partnering with specific hotels to elevate the experience for their top-tier guests.
By incorporating a private flight, travelers create an exclusive travel experience from start to finish. They step onto a private jet, are whisked away to their luxury accommodations. When they’re good and ready they are delivered back home in style.
Two international airports in Los Cabos cater to private jets, Los Cabos International Airport and Cabo San Lucas International Airport. But the latter tends to handle the majority of air traffic via private jets. All travel plans are coordinated through the private airline.
VIP travelers tend to book exclusive outings. It’s not out of the ordinary for a guest to plan a private event at a high-end restaurant, for example, or charter a yacht specifically for their group. As a result, many restaurants and hotels have added elite experiences to their offerings.
Restaurants often have a special events coordinator on staff to provide a personalized experience while hotels have created high-end excursion packages, like private fishing charters, sunset cruises, ATV tours, or VIP access to a championship golf course.
At Costa Palmas, for example, guests can create a customized yacht itinerary or work with Aventura, an on-site team of experienced guides that can cater day-trips or excursions to any desire. An 18-hole golf course welcomes residents to picturesque greens, challenging terrain, and offers tips from golf pros, as well.
As with any popular destination, rental cars are a necessity. While many travelers book an affordable car to get from one point to another, luxury travelers want something more.
Los Cabo has seen an uptick in requests for luxury or exotic vehicles. From convertibles that greet the sunny paradise to rugged Jeeps that let visitors go off-roading on Cabo’s iconic dirt roads, rental cars provide luxury accommodations in East Cape too.
Many resorts in and around Los Cabos have added high-end perks to appeal to affluent travelers, like private chefs, butlers, and itinerary planners. These services are often paired with bespoke accommodations that offer private pools, vast outdoor spaces, open layouts, ensuite bathrooms for each guest room, and floor-to-ceiling windows throughout.
While a growing number of visitors are seeking more luxurious accommodations, so too are homeowners. As interest in Los Cabos and neighboring East Cape grows, the demand for private beachside villas and high-end condos is expected to grow as well.
In the second quarter of 2024, home sales in the $1 million and up price range accounted for 75% of total sales in Los Cabos. Homes priced between $2 to $5 million represented 34% of sales.
With the rise in million-dollar homeownership, real estate experts expect to see an influx in high-end home tours this year. But, luxury homeowners are selective, often looking for homes with a view, access to amenities, and jaw-dropping aesthetics. Here’s a closer look at some of their expectations:
As with any home purchase, luxury homeowners want a stunning view. Some homeowners will only explore beachside homes or those with a panoramic beach view, while others prefer to greet the mountains from their window each morning. Some homeowners prefer a home that overlooks a marina that’s just steps from their door. Homeowners have options in Los Cabos and East Cape.
While some historic homes offer a charming setting, luxury buyers usually lean towards modern homes. In newer builds, layouts tend to be more open, and smart features are usually built in.
In Los Cabos, about half of the housing inventory is pre-construction builds. This is indicative of a strong desire to create fresh, new spaces and customize details. With pre-constructions homes, buyers can select a layout, design the flow of the home, and add modern tech like keyless locks, remote heating and air, or lights controlled by a smartphone or central dashboard.
Homeowners typically customize spaces too, requesting things like an outdoor kitchen, exercise room, a bathroom with spa features, a game room, wine cellar or storage, and walk-in closets.
As mentioned, amenities are important to this demographic, so real estate experts expect homes with on-site restaurants, bars, pools, and golf courses, for example, to be in demand.
Sometimes, hobbies drive home choices. For instance, if a buyer is an avid scuba diver or golfer, he or she may want a home that’s close to these amenities.
Nestled inside the luxurious, 1500-acre Costa Palmas property are breezy, sophisticated homes known as Casa Blake. This iconic neighborhood, with luxury accommodations in East Cape, is steps from Marina Village’s boutique shops, premier restaurants, and a chic nightclub.
With layers of open-air terraces throughout, owners can choose from several turkey layouts, including a studio, one-, two-, or three-bedroom home.
Sitting on two miles of calm, swimmable beach, owners can choose to take a dip in the sapphire waters of the Sea of Cortez or in sparkling swimming pools that lean over the prestigious marina.
