6 Places to Visit in Los Cabos to Embrace Nature

The best places to visit in Los Cabos are full of natural beauty. From the sapphire shorelines to the rugged mountain peaks of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains, visitors can retreat into nature in many ways.

Given the warm, sunshine-filled climate, outdoor activities are part of the culture in Los Cabos. It’s stitched into the fabric of every town, every resident, and every guest who explores Baja’s southern peninsula.

If you decide to visit Los Cabos, you can fill your itinerary with nature-embracing activities. The ones you choose, of course, depend on your interests. Consider one (or several) of these activities on your trip to Los Cabos.

  • Soak in a hot spring

The Sierra de la Laguna Mountains offer many hidden treasures, including natural wonders like hot springs. In fact, the number of hot springs north of Los Cabos prompted the Mexican government to designate the area as a reserve to protect the biosphere that creates these warm pools of water. While many of the springs are inaccessible, there are two that tourists can drive to and enjoy: El Chorro and Santa Rita Hot Springs.

Located at the base of the Agua Caliente Canyon, El Chorro Hot Springs offers a bubbling pool in a stunning, rocky setting. The Santa Rita Hot Springs is a smaller, more secluded spot to relax.

  • Snorkel through a natural aquarium

The Sea of Cortez is teeming with marine life, especially within the protected marine park known as Cabo Pulmo. A 2,000-year-old coral reef below the surface serves as a home for more than 800 species, including several endangered and endemic species, like the Cortez angelfish, black skipjack, and the green sea turtle. All you need to witness these creatures in their natural habitat is a snorkel and fins.

Cabo Pulmo offers an ideal setting to embrace nature. Whether you book a tour to visit this aquatic haven, or rent a car and make a day trip on your own, this park will not disappoint.

While Cabo Pulmo is the premier snorkeling destination, located near the East Cape, you do have a few other options to choose from. Chileno Bay and Santa Maria Bay, closer to Cabo, have calm, clear water and a vibrant world of fish gliding below.

  • Visit El Arco

No trip to Los Cabos is complete without seeing the iconic arch. The three-story granite formation sits at the junction of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. Years of crashing waves and whipping winds have eroded the rockface into an arch, which is only accessible by boat.

For a truly serene experience, consider renting a charter to take you to Land’s End, where you can not only see the arch, but several other jagged peaks that jut out of the water.

  • Lounge on a beach

You have your pick of beaches to choose from in Los Cabos, but if you’re looking for a little peace and quiet in nature, consider a more secluded beach. Playa del Amor, for example, is only accessible by boat so it’s a less crowded option. Santa Maria Beach is fairly quiet during weekdays too.

Medano Beach is one of the most popular beaches, so if you’re looking for solitude, it’s best to avoid this one.

Beaches in general tend to get busier after lunch, so mornings are often your best time to visit.

  • Go horseback riding

Few things compare to riding a horse along the beach at sunset. You can find a handful of tour companies that take you through the arid, cactus-filled desert and pristine beaches. Along the way, your tour guide will point out native flowers, plants, and you may even spot dolphins during your ride.

While you’ll want to grab your phone and snap pictures as you go, it’s a great time to soak in the scenery and embrace the beauty of your surroundings.

The duration of the tours varies, but most are around two hours. In some cases, an extra activity is added, like a picnic lunch or a tequila tasting to complete the tour.

Transportation to and from your hotel is typically available too.

  • Plan a three-day hike

For those who truly want to be off the radar and immersed in nature, consider a three-day, guided hike through the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains. The Cañon San Dionísio trail takes you from the east side of the mountains to the west side, with its starting point at Rancho San Dionísio.

This cross-Sierra expedition is broken up into three legs and is about 13 miles in total. Day one takes you through the mountains for a three-hour journey to the top of Poza de Pepe, reaching about 3,000 feet. The views from the vista are more than impressive, but the next leg of the trip takes you to Valle la Laguna, where pine and oak trees mingle with fresh water springs. Then, it’s on to Picacho la Laguna. This stunning location sits at 7,000 feet, giving you breathtaking views of the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean.

If you’re interested in planning this kind of hike, speak with the staff at your hotel. Guests of Costa Palmas can speak with the Aventura team to coordinate the trip with experienced, local guides.

  • Consider buying real estate that embraces nature

After you visit Los Cabos, you might just fall in love with its natural scenery. For some, a visit to this area turns into a desire to call it home. Imagine being able to wander the shorelines, visit the hot springs, or plan hikes on a regular basis. If that’s your idea of paradise, it might be time to consider your real estate options in Los Cabos.

While there are many luxurious homes on the market, Costa Palmas offers high-end residences with stunning views, impressive spaces, and a host of amenities that can’t be rivaled. Consider, for instance, Casa Blake, a luxe, free-spirited community that offers a home of inspired design, casual glamor and playful sophistication. When you visit Los Cabos, consider touring Casa Blake.
