Summertime Mountain Storms

Rainy days here are almost nonexistent. Almost all of our water comes instead from rainfall in the nearby Sierra de la Laguna mountains and during the summer months, the mountains are often enveloped with afternoon storm clouds, which provide an epic backdrop to life at the beach, which remains calm and sunny.

Yesterday was one of those days. We set out for a paddle around 3pm on a beautiful windless afternoon right as the clouds were beginning to gather. With the storm up in the mountains, the conditions were perfectly safe and sunny and we felt there would be no better place to watch the show than from out on the water.

Here are a few pictures from our paddle. We were treated to distant thunder and lightning as well as a surprise school of manta rays who joined us for the show.
