Summer Breeze

Throughout the summer at Costa Palmas we are blessed with a glorious afternoon sea breeze. This breeze usually begins to fill in around 10 or 11am from the South East and gradually builds throughout the day usually peaking around 3pm and then quickly dying off around 6 or 7pm.

At it’s peak, the breeze typically reaches a pleasant 10 – 12 mph, which keeps everyone comfortable in the afternoon sun and also provides a wealth of opportunity for some afternoon wind sports such as sailing, windsurfing and kiteboarding.

Avid wind sport enthusiasts have long been visitors to Los Barriles and the East Cape of Baja. Throughout the winter conditions are fantastic and kiteboarders from all over the world flock to Baja to participate. Summer kiteboarding however tends to sneak under the radar. The reason is that up until the last few years, kiteboarding equipment was not suitable for riding in the light winds of summer but all that has now changed. The advent of lighter, more efficient kites has opened up a whole host of destinations and conditions and summer time at Costa Palmas is right in the sweet spot.

Here are some photos from a memorable kiteboarding session this past weekend.
