La Ribera Summer Camp

Costa Palmas proudly co-sponsored the 2018 Kids Summer Camp, “Verano Activo 2018.” (Active Summer, 2018). The primary goal of this 3-week day camp was to offer children, ages 5-12 years old from the local communities, an alternative space for recreation, artistic expression and learning. The camp was open to all children in the La Ribera area during their summer break from school during the month of July.

The camp was sponsored by the Casa de la Cultura de La Delegacion de La Ribera in partnership with Costa Palmas. More than 100 children attended the daily camp led by a staff of 18, four of which from the Costa Palmas team.

The campers participated in various athletics like futbol/soccer, volleyball and pickleball, along with artistic ventures that included painting classes, mandala creation and also the usage of found and recycled objects to make art.

In an effort to provide a well-rounded, civic experience, the children also picked up refuse and recyclable items throughout the area, underscoring the importance of keeping the community clean and the importance of each individual to the greater good.

On the final day of camp, the campers planted trees on the central “camellon” of La Ribera. Together, nearly 200 people participated in this tree-planting experience to enhance the main street of La Ribera. In celebration of a successful week, a closing ceremony was held and all who attended enjoyed a fresh lunch and fruit-infused natural popsicles prepared by the Costa Palmas team and served from the new Costa Palmas Food Truck.
