A Day Trip to the Museo Ruta de Plata

A Costa Palmas Spotlight

History is brought to life just a brief and scenic drive from the Costa Palmas Resort on the East Cape at the Museo Ruta de Plata in the historic mining town of El Triunfo. For almost 500 years the Baja region attracted explorers in search of ore – naturally occurring solid materials from which a metal or valuable mineral can be profitably extracted. The legacy and influence of these treasure seekers on the settlement of Baja California is expertly displayed at the Museo Ruta de Plata.

El Triunfo

El Triunfo, or “The Triumph” in English, was once the largest city in the state of Baja California Sur thanks to the lure of rich silver deposits that historical figures like Hernan Cortes couldn’t resist. The Spanish conqueror sent an expedition to the Baja California Peninsula in 1532, thus contributing to the vibrant history of the area curated by Sr. Juan Cabuto Vidrio. The museum brings to life the history of La Paz’s Ruta de Plata region through exhibits and expanded community development promoting mining heritage and tourism – including an interactive English tearoom experience.

Beyond the museum, the town of El Triunfo is entering a revitalization period with individuals restoring several of the older buildings, converting them to chic cafes, museums, boutiques and more.
