Bisbee’s 2020 East Cape Offshore Sets New Record

TEAM ‘CHACHALALOCOS’ REEL IN THE WIN OF THE BISBEE’S EAST CAPE 2020 WITH THE BIGGEST CATCH IN 21 YEARS!

72 fishing teams came to the annual Bisbee’s East Cape Offshore fishing event this year, with one team taking home a record-breaking $1.1 Million US jackpot. Despite this world-renowned fishing event taking place during these unsettling time, resulting in Baja Sur’s sport fishing authorities installing rigorous safety protocol adjustments, the tournament went off without a hitch, much to the gratitude of all involved.

Angler Greg Kelc of Team Big Oh reeled in a 39.9-pound dorado within 15 short minutes, turning out to be the entire tournament’s heaviest dorado. Kelc was the recipient of $60,170 US prize money for this impressive feat.

On Day two, Team Fin & Tonic’s angler James Brodsky boated a 41.4-pound tuna – big enough to tip over the minimum 40-pound weight requirement and take home $82,695 US in prize winnings.

Later that day it was Team Chachalacos, captained by La Ribera natives Carlos Almanza, his brother David and Edmanuel Macklis, who showed up with a gargantuan blue marlin that weighed in at a staggering 704-pounds. Perhaps the Almanza brothers summoned up their three generations of prior angling knowledge to hook this marlin – whatever it was that resulted in the largest weight recorded in the 21-year history of the Bisbee East Cape Offshore Tournament.

The total team payout of $1,110,050 USD was distributed on Saturday as follows:

1st: Chachalacos – Blue Marlin – 704-pounds $240,284.00
2nd: True Grit – Black Marlin – 306-pounds $559,870.00 (since there were no billfish weighed on Day One the daily were double on Day Two)
